The National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) has issued a stern warning of a nationwide protest following the tragic death of a recent Auchi Polytechnic graduate, allegedly caused by a Dangote Group truck in Edo State.
According to eyewitness reports, the accident occurred near the Jattu junction in Auchi, where a Dangote truck reportedly lost control and fatally struck the young graduate, identified as Miss Blessing Ojo, who had just completed her Higher National Diploma (HND) in Business Administration.
NAPS President, Comrade Ibrahim Yusuf, expressed deep sorrow and outrage over the incident, describing it as “a gross reflection of corporate negligence and disregard for human life.”
“We are tired of watching our colleagues die due to reckless driving and poor safety standards. If Dangote Group fails to take full responsibility and the authorities do not act swiftly, we will mobilize polytechnic students across all zones for a nationwide shutdown.”
The association has given a 7-day ultimatum to relevant stakeholders, including the Federal Ministry of Transportation and the Dangote Group, to respond to their demands or face mass demonstrations across campuses and major highways.
This incident adds to a growing list of grievances among polytechnic students, who have long decried systemic neglect, poor infrastructure, and unequal treatment compared to university counterparts. The death of Miss Ojo has become a rallying point for broader calls for justice and reform.
