The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Mark Egbegolu, Managing Director of Mayfresh Mortgage Bank, along with two senior Catholic Sisters of Jesus the Saviour (SJS), Reverend Sisters Annette Ezekwem and Gertrude Okafor, in connection with an ongoing investigation into alleged share theft and document falsification at the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).

The arrests stem from a petition filed by relatives of the late Chief Steven Edeh, Arc. John Paul, and Mrs. Maria Edeh-Omego, whose shares in Mayfresh Mortgage Bank were allegedly erased from CAC records. The petition, submitted through legal counsel Mr. Olu Omotayo, accuses the suspects of tampering with shareholding documents in violation of Section 175 (3) of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020.

Egbegolu was taken into custody on August 8 and remains detained, while the two Reverend Sisters were arrested on August 13 and released on bail to Reverend Father Emmanuel Edeh the following day. The EFCC has confirmed the arrests and stated that investigations are ongoing, with further developments expected.

The petitioners emphasized that share ownership is a personal right and cannot be revoked without lawful transfer, warning that such fraudulent acts threaten investor confidence and national economic stability. The matter was initially referred to the EFCC by the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, following an earlier petition dated November 5, 2024.
