Nigerian Army Confirms Explosion at Ilese Barracks, Ogun State

The Nigerian Army has confirmed a minor explosion and subsequent fire outbreak at Ilese Barracks, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, in the early hours of Thursday, August 14, 2025. The incident occurred within a storage facility belonging to the 42 Engineers Brigade Counter Improvised Explosive Device Squadron.






According to Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, the explosion was swiftly contained through the coordinated efforts of troops from the 12 Field Engineer Regiment and the Ijebu-Ode Fire Service. 





“Importantly, no lives were lost, and no injuries were sustained. The structural damage was confined to the affected building and some stored materials,” Lt. Col. Anele stated.






A detailed assessment is currently underway to determine the extent of material loss. The Nigerian Army has launched a thorough investigation in collaboration with relevant agencies to ascertain the exact cause of the incident and prevent future occurrences.






Residents of Ilese and surrounding communities are urged to remain calm and continue with their daily activities. The Army reassures the public of its unwavering commitment to the safety and security of its personnel and neighboring civilians.
