Senator Monday Okpebholo has expressed deep concern over the sluggish progress of the critical Benin–Sapele Road rehabilitation project, calling out contractors for what he described as “unacceptable delays” in delivering a lifeline infrastructure that affects thousands of commuters and businesses daily.
During a site inspection earlier this week, Senator Okpebholo, who represents Edo Central Senatorial District, lamented the deteriorating condition of the road and the hardship it continues to inflict on road users. He emphasized that the Benin–Sapele corridor is not just a regional artery but a strategic economic route linking Edo State to the Niger Delta and beyond.
“This road is a vital economic channel, and the pace of work here is simply not good enough. Our people deserve better,” Senator Okpebholo stated. “We cannot continue to tolerate excuses while lives are endangered and businesses suffer.”
In response to mounting public frustration, the Senator has summoned the contractors handling the project to a high-level meeting scheduled for later this week. The goal: to demand accountability, review timelines, and explore immediate remedial actions to accelerate progress.
The meeting will also include representatives from the Federal Ministry of Works, community leaders, and technical experts to ensure transparency and foster collaborative solutions.
