In a case that has sent shockwaves through Norway and beyond, Marius Borg Høiby, the 28-year-old son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit and stepson of Crown Prince Haakon, has been formally charged with 32 criminal offenses, including four counts of rape, multiple instances of domestic abuse, and acts of violence against women.

The indictment, announced by Oslo State Attorney Sturla Henriksbø, follows a year-long investigation involving 18 alleged victims and thousands of digital communications and media files.

Henriksbø emphasized the gravity of the case, stating: “Rape and violence in close relationships can leave lasting traces and destroy lives. The fact that Mr. Borg Høiby is a member of the royal family should not result in leniency or special treatment under the law.”

Mr. Borg Høiby, who withdrew from royal duties at age 20 and holds no official title, is currently free pending trial. His legal team has acknowledged the seriousness of the accusations but denies wrongdoing in most cases, particularly those involving sexual abuse and violence.

The trial is expected to begin in mid-January 2026 and last approximately six weeks. If convicted, Mr. Borg Høiby could face up to 10 years in prison.

The Royal Palace has issued a brief statement, affirming that the matter is for the courts to decide and offering no further comment at this time.
