In a decisive move to ensure the safety and integrity of the upcoming by-elections, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has announced the deployment of 20,850 personnel across 16 constituencies in 12 states scheduled for Saturday, August 16.

The Commandant General of the NSCDC, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, made the announcement at the Corps’ National Headquarters in Abuja. He emphasized the Corps’ commitment to safeguarding critical national assets, election materials, and officials, while working in close synergy with the Nigeria Police and other sister security agencies.

“All State Commandants have been adequately briefed with emphasis on professionalism, respect for citizens’ fundamental human rights, and a firm commitment to ensuring a peaceful electoral process,” Prof. Audi stated.

The deployment spans Anambra, Edo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Ogun, Oyo, Taraba, Kogi, Kano, Niger, and other states where elections will be held. The by-elections aim to fill two senatorial seats, five federal constituencies, and nine state constituencies as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Prof. Audi urged eligible voters to turn out en masse and exercise their democratic rights, assuring the public of a secure and hitch-free electoral environment.
