The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has issued a stern warning to motorists across Nigeria regarding the hazardous practice of transporting passengers alongside goods in vehicles not designed for such dual purposes. This advisory comes in response to a recent surge in road traffic crashes involving overloaded vehicles, many of which were found to be carrying both human passengers and commercial cargo.
Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja, FRSC Corps Marshal, Dauda Biu, emphasized the life-threatening risks associated with this practice, noting that it violates national road safety regulations and endangers all road users.
“Vehicles are designed with specific safety parameters. Mixing passengers with goods—especially in trucks, vans, or open-bed vehicles—compromises those standards and exposes occupants to severe injury or death in the event of a crash,” Biu stated.
The Corps has announced intensified patrols and enforcement operations nationwide, targeting vehicles found to be violating this safety directive. Commercial transport operators, logistics companies, and private vehicle owners are urged to comply with the guidelines and prioritize human safety over profit.
