Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, has accused the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of gross negligence in addressing the recent killings in Plateau State. In a strongly-worded statement, Dalung condemned the government’s failure to take decisive action, describing the attacks on local communities as “nothing short of genocide.”

The Plateau region has experienced an upsurge in violent attacks in recent months, with reports indicating a significant number of civilian casualties, the destruction of homes, and the displacement of thousands. The ongoing insecurity in the state has raised concerns about the safety and well-being of local populations.

Dalung, a native of Plateau State, criticized the government for its continued inaction, despite the growing scale of violence. In his statement, he said, “The federal government cannot continue to ignore the cries of the people of Plateau. This is no longer a case of mere insecurity—what we are witnessing is genocide. Communities are being wiped out, and the government has failed to take any meaningful steps to stop the bloodshed.”

He further accused the Tinubu-led administration of prioritizing political interests over the lives of Nigerians, particularly those in the Middle Belt region, who have been subjected to repeated violence. “The government's indifference is alarming,” Dalung said. “The President and his security agencies must act swiftly and decisively to restore peace and ensure the protection of lives and properties.”

Dalung also called on international bodies, human rights organizations, and the Nigerian public to hold the government accountable for the violence, which has already led to numerous deaths, displacement, and suffering. “The situation is dire, and it’s time for the international community to take notice. The people of Plateau cannot continue to live in fear while the government does nothing.”
