A large group of protesters stormed the Lagos State House of Assembly today, voicing their concerns over multiple national issues, including the controversial Cybercrime Act, allegations of illegal governance in Rivers State, and the resignation of the Inspector General of Police.

The demonstration, which began early this morning, saw hundreds of citizens from various political and social backgrounds gathering at the Assembly grounds. They raised their voices against the Cybercrime Act, which they argue undermines personal freedoms, privacy, and freedom of expression. Protesters chanted for the immediate repeal of the act, calling it an infringement on basic human rights.

“We demand that the Cybercrime Act be repealed immediately. It is a law that threatens our right to free speech and privacy in the digital age,” said one of the protest leaders.

In addition to their objections to the Cybercrime Act, the protesters also voiced their anger against what they termed an "illegal rule" in Rivers State. They accused the state government of unlawful practices that infringe upon citizens' rights and called for an end to the alleged autocratic governance led by the state's authorities. Protesters rallied against the absence of democratic principles in the governance of Rivers and demanded that legitimate processes be restored.

Another key demand was the resignation of the Inspector General of Police, whom protesters held responsible for the recent increase in police brutality and alleged misconduct by law enforcement officers across the country. They cited numerous incidents where police officers were accused of violating human rights and operating with impunity.

“The police have become an instrument of terror. We demand that the Inspector General of Police resign to make way for a thorough reform in the force. Accountability must be restored,” the protester continued.

As the protests unfolded, security forces were stationed near the Assembly to maintain order and prevent any escalation. Despite the high tension, the protests have remained largely peaceful, with no major incidents reported.
