In a decisive move to curb rising criminal activities, Governor Hope Uzodimma has announced a ‘72-hour clampdown’ on tinted commercial buses operating within Imo State. The directive, issued on Wednesday night, mandates all commercial bus drivers to remove tinted windows within the stipulated timeframe or face legal consequences.
Governor Uzodimma explained that intelligence reports have linked tinted commercial buses to crimes such as “kidnapping, armed robbery, and hit-and-run incidents”. In response, security agencies have been directed to collaborate with designated government officials to enforce the new regulation effectively.
“The safety and security of Imo residents remain our top priority,” the governor stated. “We cannot allow criminal syndicates to exploit tinted commercial vehicles as tools for their unlawful activities. This clampdown is a necessary step to protect our people and restore confidence in public transportation.”
The governor’s office has assured that defaulters who fail to comply within the three-day grace period will face ‘prosecution’. Law enforcement agencies have been instructed to ensure strict adherence to the directive, with violators subject to legal action.
