Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, arrived at the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters in Abuja today, carrying a travel bag packed with personal essentials including soap, toothpaste, books, and clothing—signaling his readiness for possible detention following a police summons.
The summons, issued by the Inspector General of Police Monitoring Unit, stems from a petition alleging forgery and criminal defamation. Sowore, known for his outspoken activism and leadership of the #RevolutionNow movement, had vowed to honor the invitation “with a full house,” calling on “revolutionary comrades, citizens of conscience, voices of resistance” to accompany him.
At approximately 12:16 p.m., Sowore arrived at the facility flanked by his legal team—A.K. Musa and Marshal Abubakar—and a large crowd of supporters. The atmosphere was charged with chants denouncing the government and Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
In a dramatic show of solidarity, Sowore’s supporters issued a two-hour ultimatum demanding his immediate release, warning of nationwide protests should the police detain him without cause. The symbolic gesture of arriving with a travel bag was interpreted by many as a statement of defiance and preparedness for unjust incarceration.
