The Labour Party (LP) has formally accused the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, of engaging in activities deemed to be against the interests and principles of the party. In a statement released from the party's national secretariat, the National Working Committee (NWC) announced the formation of a disciplinary panel to investigate the governor’s alleged anti-party conduct.

According to the Labour Party, Governor Otti is believed to have engaged in collaboration with political elements from rival parties, contrary to the LP’s core values and operational directives. The accusations also include allegations of undermining the authority of the party's leadership and promoting individuals and policies not aligned with the Labour Party’s platform.

"The Labour Party is a movement built on transparency, discipline, and unwavering commitment to the ideals of justice and equity. Any action by members, no matter how highly placed, that threatens the unity and focus of the party will not be tolerated," said Barrister Julius Abure, National Chairman of the Labour Party.

To address the situation, the NWC has established a five-member disciplinary panel to thoroughly investigate the matter and recommend appropriate sanctions in accordance with the party’s constitution. The panel is expected to invite Governor Otti to respond to the allegations within a stipulated period.

Party insiders describe the move as a necessary step to maintain internal discipline and preserve the party’s integrity as it builds toward future elections and governance responsibilities.
