Deputy Governor of Niger State, Comrade Yakubu Garba, has firmly denied widespread rumours suggesting his resignation from office amid growing reports of a rift with Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago.

In an exclusive statement made available to the press on Wednesday, Garba dismissed the speculation as “baseless and politically motivated,” reaffirming his commitment to the administration and the people of Niger State.

“I want to make it categorically clear — I am not resigning,” Garba said. “These rumours are entirely unfounded and a distraction from the work we are doing to transform our dear state. I remain loyal to the mandate freely given to us by the good people of Niger State.”

Rumours of Garba’s resignation gained traction over the past week, with social media platforms and local media outlets abuzz with claims of internal disagreements between the deputy governor and Governor Bago. Sources close to the administration have alluded to differences over policy directions and administrative appointments, but Garba’s office has declined to comment on the specifics of the alleged rift.

When asked about his relationship with Governor Bago, Garba responded, “Disagreements are normal in any administration. What matters is our shared goal — to serve the people. I continue to work with His Excellency, Governor Bago, in the interest of progress and unity.”

The Niger State Government has not issued an official response to the resignation rumours, but insiders suggest efforts are underway to address any internal tensions within the administration.

Political analysts view Garba’s firm denial as an attempt to stabilize the administration and quash further speculation that could derail ongoing developmental projects.
