In a passionate appeal during the South-West Zonal Caucus meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) held in Ibadan, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State called on party leaders and coalition members to remain steadfast in their commitment to the PDP, despite internal challenges.
Addressing recent defections and growing speculation surrounding the opposition coalition, Governor Makinde likened the situation to abandoning a home due to a leaking roof. “You can’t abandon your house because of a leaking roof,” he declared. “The PDP is built on solid foundations, and like any structure, it may experience wear and tear. It is our responsibility as party members to fix the leaks, reinforce the foundation, and ensure the house remains standing for the people of this country.”
Governor Makinde emphasized that the PDP remains the most credible political alternative for Nigerians and reaffirmed his commitment to working with stakeholders to strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 general elections. He urged disillusioned members to return and join efforts to rebuild the party from within, rather than seeking refuge elsewhere.
The meeting, which included key South-West PDP figures such as Osun State Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi and former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, concluded with a communique reaffirming loyalty to the PDP and rejecting the coalition as a threat to the party’s unity.
Governor Makinde’s remarks come amid shifting political alliances and underscore the PDP’s resolve to present a united front in the face of adversity. “Let us fix the roof together and keep this house strong for the future,” he concluded.
