Senator Ireti Kingibe, representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has officially announced her resignation from the Labour Party, citing deep concerns over the party’s internal divisions and lack of strategic direction. The Senator has declared her full support for the emerging opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which is positioning itself as a credible alternative ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement delivered following a high-level meeting with ADC leadership and stakeholders in Abuja, Senator Kingibe emphasized the urgent need for a unified and functional opposition platform. “The Labour Party, in its current fractured state, cannot serve as a viable vehicle for change. I am committed to the ADC coalition because it offers structure, credible candidates, and a clear vision for Nigeria’s future,” she said.
Kingibe’s decision comes amid growing momentum within the ADC-led coalition, which has attracted prominent figures from across Nigeria’s political spectrum. The coalition aims to consolidate opposition forces and present a formidable challenge to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming elections.
While Senator Kingibe has not yet formally registered as an ADC member, she confirmed her unwavering commitment to the coalition’s goals and leadership. “My allegiance is with the ADC coalition. I believe this is the platform that can deliver real change for the FCT and Nigeria at large,” she stated.
