The Presidency has addressed recent media inquiries regarding a U.S. federal court ruling that ordered the release of investigative records related to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's alleged involvement in a 1990s drug trafficking case. The administration has firmly stated that these decades-old allegations hold no bearing on President Tinubu's current legal or political standing.
Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, emphasized that the reports in question have been publicly available for over 30 years and do not indict the Nigerian leader. "There is nothing new to be revealed," Onanuga stated. "The reports did not in any way implicate President Tinubu, and our legal team is currently reviewing the ruling."
The court's decision, delivered by Judge Beryl Howell of the U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., has reignited public interest in the matter. However, the Presidency maintains that the allegations are irrelevant to President Tinubu's tenure and leadership. "Whatever happened before he became President is not actionable," Onanuga reiterated.
The administration remains focused on its commitment to governance, economic development, and regional stability, dismissing attempts to divert attention from pressing national issues. President Tinubu continues to prioritize the welfare of Nigerians and the advancement of the nation's global standing.
