Former Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has issued a stark warning to Nigerians, urging the electorate to take decisive action to prevent what he described as the “impending destruction” of the nation under the continued leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking during a public dialogue in Abuja on Saturday, El-Rufai, a founding member of the APC and once a key figure in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s political network, expressed deep concern over the current state of governance, the economy, and national unity. He called on Nigerians across party lines to unite in removing the APC-led administration through democratic means in the next general elections.

“If we allow the APC to remain in power beyond this point, we are not just tolerating bad governance — we are signing off on the destruction of Nigeria as we know it,” El-Rufai declared. “This is no longer about loyalty or party; it’s about saving the soul of our country.”

The former governor cited worsening economic hardship, growing insecurity, erosion of democratic values, and increasing disillusionment among Nigerians as evidence of what he described as the administration’s “total disconnect” from the realities faced by citizens.

El-Rufai’s comments come amid mounting criticism of the Tinubu government’s handling of key national issues, including fuel subsidy removal, foreign exchange instability, and rising inflation. His remarks are expected to spark political ripples within the ruling party and intensify speculations about his future political alignment.

While El-Rufai did not announce a formal breakaway from the APC, his sharp rebuke and public disavowal of the party’s current trajectory are likely to fuel broader conversations about leadership change ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Nigerians, he emphasized, must reject fear and act with urgency: “This country is not the property of any political party. It belongs to the people. If the government has failed, the people must rise.”
