The Rivers State government has announced plans to extend the current emergency rule in the state, following heightened security concerns in several parts of the region. The announcement was made by Hon. Gbali, Commissioner for Information and Communications, on behalf of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Addressing the media, Gbali emphasized that the extension of the emergency rule is a strategic response to the increasing security challenges and the need to ensure the safety of lives and property across Rivers State. He stated that the decision was not taken lightly but is essential to address the security issues and restore peace to the affected areas.
"The safety of our citizens remains a top priority. After thorough deliberations and in consultation with security agencies, Governor Fubara has authorized the continuation of the emergency rule. This measure is aimed at combating the rising threats posed by criminal elements and ensuring that our communities can live and work in safety," Gbali said.
The commissioner assured residents that the government is working closely with law enforcement agencies to improve security measures and restore public order. He also called for the cooperation of all citizens in adhering to the necessary protocols during the period of emergency rule, to ensure its effectiveness in curbing violence and instability.
Rivers State has been grappling with various security challenges, including violent clashes among rival groups, armed robberies, and kidnapping. The extension of the emergency rule is expected to bring additional support to local law enforcement agencies and other security apparatus as they continue to tackle these challenges head-on.
