In a tragic incident, suspected members of the Lakurawa terrorist group launched a deadly attack on Morai village in the Augie Local Government Area of Kebbi State. The attack, which occurred on Sunday, claimed the lives of 13 vigilante members who were attempting to protect their community from cattle rustling.
According to local sources, the vigilantes had received intelligence about the impending attack and took cover in nearby shrubs to intercept the assailants. However, the attackers had already encircled the vigilantes, leading to a devastating ambush. The attackers opened fire, resulting in the loss of 13 lives on the spot.
Efforts to recover the bodies are ongoing, with six victims already buried according to Islamic rites. The remaining search operations continue as the community mourns the loss of its brave defenders.
Local authorities and security agencies have been urged to intensify efforts to address the growing insecurity in the region. The Kebbi State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
