In a groundbreaking political development, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has officially announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Joining him in this strategic move are former Delta State Governor and PDP Vice Presidential Candidate in the 2023 elections, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, Deputy Governor Monday Onyeme, Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, and other prominent PDP leaders.

The announcement, made during a press briefing at Government House in Asaba, marks a significant realignment in Delta State's political structure. Senator James Manager, speaking on behalf of the defectors, described the decision as a calculated step to ensure the continued growth and development of the state. "Delta is now an APC state," Manager declared, emphasizing the collective commitment to repositioning the state for sustained progress.

Governor Oborevwori highlighted the need for broader collaboration and renewed focus on building a prosperous Delta State. "This move is not about personal gain but about securing the future of our state," he stated. The defection is expected to accelerate ongoing reforms and unlock new opportunities through strengthened cooperation with the federal government.

The shift has sent ripples through the political landscape, with observers noting its potential implications for the South-South region's power dynamics. The formal declaration ceremony is scheduled for Monday, promising to be a pivotal moment in Delta State's political history
