The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to transforming its educational infrastructure and training systems to build a future-ready force capable of meeting the evolving demands of modern warfare and national security.

Speaking at the commissioning of the newly upgraded Nigerian Army Institute for Science and Technology in Abuja, the COAS emphasized that education is the cornerstone of innovation, adaptability, and strategic excellence in today’s complex security environment.

“A technologically advanced and intellectually empowered army is not a luxury—it is a necessity,” the COAS stated. “We are investing in education not just to enhance tactical proficiency, but to cultivate leaders, engineers, cyber specialists, and strategic thinkers who will shape the future of our military.”

This initiative aligns with the Nigerian Army’s broader transformation agenda, which includes digitization of operations, enhanced intelligence capabilities, and improved welfare for personnel.

The COAS noted that the future battlefield will be shaped by artificial intelligence, cyber warfare, and autonomous systems. To remain competitive and mission-ready, the Nigerian Army must evolve beyond conventional training and embrace a culture of continuous learning.

“Our soldiers must be thinkers as much as they are fighters,” he added. “This investment in education is a strategic imperative that will define our operational success in the years to come.”
