A constitutional and political storm brews in Adamawa State as Mrs. Peace Audu, the Vice Chairman of Fufore Local Government Council, faces an unprecedented delay in her swearing-in following the sudden death of Chairman Shuaibu Babas on April 23, 2025.

Mrs. Audu, a Christian and the first female Vice Chairman in the council's history, has yet to assume the leadership role mandated by the Nigerian Constitution. Allegations suggest that her faith and gender are at the heart of the delay, sparking outrage among local Christian communities and raising serious constitutional concerns.

Reports indicate behind-the-scenes efforts to pressure Mrs. Audu into stepping down, allegedly to pave the way for a male Muslim successor. Critics argue that this delay undermines the principles of equality and justice enshrined in the Nigerian Constitution.

“This is not just about leadership; it’s about silencing the Christian community,” said an anonymous source within the council.

The controversy has drawn attention to past leadership transitions in Adamawa State, where similar situations were resolved swiftly. Local leaders are now calling on Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri to intervene and uphold constitutional integrity.
