His Majesty Sultan Alhaji Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar has officially declared the commencement of Ramadan 2025, with the blessed month beginning today, March 1. This announcement comes after the sighting of the crescent moon, marking the start of the holiest month in the Islamic calendar.
Ramadan is a time of deep reflection, fasting, prayer, charity, and community for Muslims worldwide. It is a time to purify the soul and strengthen spiritual bonds, while also sharing in the collective efforts of charity and goodwill. As a central pillar of the Islamic faith, Ramadan serves as a reminder of the importance of empathy, discipline, and gratitude.
In his declaration, His Majesty emphasized the significance of unity, compassion, and peace during this sacred time. "Ramadan is an opportunity for all to reflect upon the values of patience, generosity, and faith. Let this month bring blessings to our people and the wider world, fostering an atmosphere of peace and understanding," the Sultan stated.
As is customary, Muslims will fast from dawn until sunset, refraining from food, drink, and other physical needs, while dedicating themselves to prayer and self-improvement. Communities will gather for nightly prayers, and mosques across the nation will host special events for reflection and charity.
The Sultan also extended his best wishes to the citizens, urging everyone to support charitable causes and share their blessings with those in need. "May this Ramadan be a time of healing and reconciliation, as we come together to build a better future for all," he added.
The Sultan’s office has also announced that government offices and businesses may observe adjusted hours to accommodate the practices of Ramadan. In addition, special programs to support the community will be announced in the coming days.
