The wife of Senate President, Mrs. Patience Akpabio, has filed a lawsuit against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan for an alleged case of sexual harassment, demanding N250 billion in damages.
According to the court documents filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja, Mrs. Akpabio accuses Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan of making defamatory statements and engaging in an act of harassment which, she claims, severely damaged her reputation and caused emotional distress.
The lawsuit, which has attracted significant media attention, alleges that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan made unsubstantiated and damaging remarks about Mrs. Akpabio, accusing her of being complicit in unethical actions related to her husband’s position as Senate President. These accusations, according to Mrs.
Akpabio, were unfounded and part of a broader pattern of harassment. Mrs. Akpabio is seeking compensation in the form of a N250 billion settlement to cover emotional damages, lost income, and the cost of defending her reputation.
Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, a prominent lawmaker and political figure, has yet to respond publicly to the allegations. However, her representatives have stated that they will vigorously defend her against the claims.
“This lawsuit is a direct response to the mental and emotional trauma that my client has endured as a result of these false and malicious allegations,” said Mrs. Akpabio’s attorney, Chief Emeka Okoro. “We seek full redress under the law, including an appropriate financial settlement and a public apology from Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan for the harm caused.”
The case is expected to draw further attention, with many political observers anticipating that it could have significant implications for both the parties involved and the political climate in the country.
