The Ohaneze Youth Council (OYC) strongly condemns the ongoing denial of bail and the alleged violation of the fundamental human rights of its leader, Comrade Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, who has been unjustly detained. The OYC believes this action to be a direct affront to the principles of justice and the rule of law in Nigeria.
Igboayaka, a prominent advocate for the rights and welfare of the Igbo people, has faced grave violations during his detention, which contradicts the constitutional rights guaranteed to him under Nigerian law. His prolonged detention, coupled with the refusal to grant bail, reflects a disturbing trend of abuse of power that is deeply concerning to all members of the OYC and the broader public.
The Council expresses serious concerns over the state of Igboayaka's health while in custody. Reports from family members and legal representatives indicate that he is not receiving the appropriate medical attention for underlying health conditions, which could pose serious risks to his wellbeing. The OYC urges the authorities to prioritize the health and safety of its leader and ensure his immediate access to proper medical care.
The Ohaneze Youth Council calls for the immediate release of Comrade Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, as well as the restoration of his basic human rights, including the right to a fair trial and access to legal representation. The OYC also demands that the government uphold the principles of justice, fairness, and respect for the rule of law in all its actions.
"We stand firmly in our resolve to ensure that Igboayaka's case is given the attention it deserves. His detention without trial and the violation of his rights are not only an affront to him but to all who believe in the fair treatment of every Nigerian citizen. We will continue to advocate for his release and the protection of his health," said Chika Nwachukwu, President of the Ohaneze Youth Council.
