Keyamo, a leading environmental research organization, has today released its highly anticipated 2025 climate forecast, offering a detailed analysis of expected weather patterns across Nigeria. Among the key highlights of the forecast, the report predicts early rains in the southern region of the country, signaling an early onset of the rainy season.

According to the climate model, the southern states, including Lagos, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom, are expected to experience rainfall much earlier than usual, with increased precipitation levels beginning in late March and continuing well into the early months of April. This shift is anticipated to have significant implications for agriculture, water resources, and disaster preparedness across the region.

"Climate change is continuing to shape our weather patterns in unpredictable ways, and early rainfall in the southern regions is one of the many indicators we are seeing," said Keyamo’s Lead Climate Scientist, Dr. Ayodele Ige. "Our forecast aims to provide early warning to farmers, urban planners, and policymakers so that they can make informed decisions to minimize potential risks and capitalize on the benefits."

In addition to the southern rains, Keyamo's report notes that northern regions may face prolonged dry spells, which could impact crop yields, water supplies, and energy generation. The northern states of Kano, Sokoto, and Borno are predicted to experience a delayed start to the rainy season, which could have consequences for agriculture-dependent communities.

The Keyamo 2025 climate forecast is based on the latest climate models, satellite data, and in-depth regional analysis. The organization has emphasized the importance of continued monitoring and adaptability in responding to the challenges posed by climate change.
