The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) today re-arraigned Olu Agunloye, a former minister under the administration of ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, before an Abuja Federal High Court. Agunloye faces multiple charges of fraud, conspiracy, and the award of fraudulent contracts during his tenure as a public official.

The charges, brought by the EFCC, stem from allegations that Agunloye, alongside others, misappropriated government funds by awarding contracts for projects that were either inflated or never executed. The total value of the fraudulent contracts is said to be in the hundreds of millions of naira. The EFCC has been investigating the matter for several years, and today’s re-arraignment marks a significant step in the ongoing prosecution of high-profile individuals involved in financial mismanagement.

Agunloye, who served as Minister of State for Power and Steel from 2003 to 2007, pleaded not guilty to all charges during the re-arraignment proceedings. The court has adjourned the case until later this month for further hearings and the commencement of the trial.

The EFCC has vowed to continue its fight against corruption and bring justice to all those implicated in fraudulent activities, regardless of their previous positions or political affiliations. The commission has reiterated its commitment to promoting transparency and accountability within Nigeria’s public sector.
