The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has called on President Bola Tinubu to suspend the ongoing tax reform bills currently under consideration in the National Assembly. This request comes amid growing concerns from various stakeholders regarding the lack of adequate consultation and engagement with the public and key interest groups.

Hashim Suleiman Dungurawa, Chairman of the NNPP, expressed that the proposed tax reforms are perceived as "anti-people" policies that could exacerbate the economic hardships already faced by many Nigerians. He emphasized the necessity of involving a broader spectrum of society in discussions about these reforms to ensure that they are equitable and beneficial to all citizens.

In a statement, Dungurawa said, "The current tax reform bills have not been sufficiently communicated to the populace. It is imperative that we engage in a national dialogue to address the concerns of all stakeholders before moving forward." He urged the government to prioritize transparency and inclusivity in its policymaking processes.

Dungurawa's remarks align with those of other critics who argue that without proper consultation, these reforms risk alienating significant segments of the population. The NNPP believes that a collaborative approach is essential for crafting tax policies that not only stimulate economic growth but also protect the interests of ordinary Nigerians.
