The Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU) Staff Union has expressed its growing frustration and disappointment over the continued delay in the disbursement of the 7.5% pension refund payment, which was approved by Niger State Governor Umar Bago over a year ago. Despite the governor's commitment to address outstanding pension issues, union members report that they have yet to receive the funds.

The 7.5% pension refund is a critical financial obligation that affects numerous staff members who have dedicated their careers to the university. The union's leadership has emphasized that the delay in payment not only undermines the financial stability of its members but also reflects poorly on the government's commitment to fulfilling its promises to public sector workers.

In a recent statement, Abdul Muhammed, Chairman of the IBBU Staff Union, highlighted that the union had previously communicated its concerns to the state government and had been assured that necessary actions would be taken. However, as time passes without resolution, frustration among staff is mounting.

"We are workers and not slaves," said Muhammed, echoing sentiments shared during recent protests where union members displayed placards demanding immediate action from the government. "It is unacceptable that we have been left waiting for over a year for funds that are rightfully ours."

The union has called for urgent intervention from Governor Bago to expedite the processing and payment of the pension refunds. They are also urging other stakeholders to support their cause as they navigate this challenging situation.
