Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced the successful return of 1,358 Ukrainian soldiers and civilians who had been held in Russian captivity during the ongoing conflict. The individuals were freed through a series of exchanges and diplomatic efforts, marking a significant step in Ukraine's ongoing efforts to bring home those detained by Russian forces.

In his statement, President Zelenskyy expressed immense pride and gratitude toward the Ukrainian Armed Forces, humanitarian organizations, and international allies who played a crucial role in securing the release of the prisoners. The freed individuals, who include both military personnel and civilian detainees, had been subjected to harsh conditions while in captivity, and their return is a testament to Ukraine's commitment to recovering its people from enemy hands.

"Today marks an important milestone for our country and our people. The return of 1,358 brave souls is a victory not only for Ukraine but for humanity," President Zelenskyy said. "We will continue to work tirelessly, in collaboration with our international partners, to ensure that all our citizens and soldiers are safely brought back home."

The president further emphasized that the return of these prisoners reflects the Ukrainian government's steadfast determination to uphold the rights and dignity of its citizens, regardless of their status as military personnel or civilians. Many of the freed individuals had been subjected to brutal treatment, and their safe return is seen as a powerful symbol of resilience and hope for Ukraine in the face of the ongoing war.

The release was made possible through a combination of military negotiations and diplomatic efforts led by Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defense. Zelenskyy praised the tireless efforts of negotiators and Ukrainian captives' families who have been demanding their loved ones' freedom.

The Ukrainian government has vowed to continue advocating for the return of all prisoners of war and civilian detainees. "We will never forget those who are still in captivity, and we will not rest until every Ukrainian is free," Zelenskyy reiterated.
