The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) proudly announces the successful surrender of two notorious terrorist leaders, Abu Radde and Umar Black, who have been operating in the Batsari and Safana Local Government Areas of Katsina State. This significant event took place on January 19, 2025, as a direct result of intensified military operations conducted by the Nigerian Armed Forces under Operation Fansan Yamma.

In a statement released by Major General Edward Buba, outgoing Director of Defence Media Operations, it was confirmed that the surrender followed a series of coordinated offensive operations that effectively dislodged terrorist enclaves in the region. These operations resulted in heavy casualties among the terrorists, compelling many to abandon their strongholds.

During the surrender ceremony, Abu Radde and Umar Black handed over four AK-47 rifles along with a cache of assorted ammunition. Additionally, they released 15 hostages, including three males, eight females, and four children, who had been held captive. The released individuals have since been handed over to local authorities for rehabilitation and aftercare.

Major General Buba emphasized that this development marks a critical step towards eradicating banditry and criminality in the Northwest region of Nigeria. He stated, “This move is not merely a negotiation or peace meeting; it is a decisive action towards complete disarmament and restoration of peace in affected communities.”

Furthermore, while celebrating this achievement, the DHQ reiterated its commitment to continue military operations against remaining terrorist elements. The ongoing hunt for other notorious figures, including Bello Turji, remains a priority as troops are determined to eliminate threats posed by these groups.
