In a tragic incident that underscores the ongoing security challenges in northeastern Nigeria, nine personnel of the Nigerian armed forces have been confirmed killed following an ambush by Boko Haram terrorists in Borno State. The ambush took place on Tuesday as the soldiers were returning from Dumba, located east of the Lake Chad basin. A soldier who spoke on condition of anonymity revealed that the troops had responded to a distress call to provide security for villagers burying 40 farmers recently murdered by Boko Haram.
