The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, on 10 January 2023 (Tuesday) reported to have visited the traditional rulers in Awka, the capital city of Anambra State and advised them to get involved in the forthcoming 2023 general election.

Obi, who has been campaigning for the train across the nation by moving Nigeria from consumption to production, blamed the current challenges facing the nation on inflation, insecurity, and unemployment. He added that there is an urgent need to take agricultural prospects in tackling food scarcity and unemployment in the nation.

Peter said though the constitution requires the traditional rulers not to play partisan politics, electing a bad leader by the masses might affect the traditional rulers unsympathetically like others. He urged them not to sit on the fence during this period of this election but they should get involved in a manner that they would not be seen, but their actions are being felt.

The traditional ruler of Okpuno Community, Awka North LGA of Anambra State, HRH Sunday Okafor, said the traditional rulers are happy with the wave being made by Peter Obi that his contention is trailed by the news of his competency, capability, and capacity to man the affairs of the country. Okafor further stated that the news around Obi's aspiration is that he represents hope for the new Nigeria and that he came for the southeast region of the country and they are all happy about that.
