The Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo on Saturday 14th, January 2023 during the kick-off of the Presidential Campaign of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) pleased with the Federal Government of Nigeria to release the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu who has been in detention for over to him as he would stand as a surety for him.

Soludo said Kanu is needed around the discussion table to discuss the insecurity in the South-East, which he said must end. He further stated that he is ready to offer himself as the surety of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, he pleaded with Federal Government to release Kanu to him, if the Federal Government could not release him unconditionally.

Prof. Charles Soludo's statement read in part;

“We need him around the discussion table, we need him to discuss about the future of the South-East. If the Federal Government cannot release him unconditionally, I now offer myself to ask the Federal Government to release him to me. We need him to end insecurity in the South-East. We need him to have a true conversation about Nigeria. We believe in Nigeria and we are Nigerians”.

Prof. Charles Soludo said his government had applied both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches in fighting insecurity in the region but that the non-kinetic approach could not be accomplished without the Federal Government releasing Nnamdi Kanu. He assured the Federal Government that he would make Kanu available anytime he is needed, saying that he would accommodate him in Awka, the capital city of Anambra state.

“We, some time ago set up the Truth and Reconciliation Committee to find out the root cause of insecurity in the South East and they have almost concluded their assignment. But this issue of insecurity cannot be well addressed without bringing to the table the key players in this matter”.
