The reality TV Show known as Big Brother Naija has grown to be the most popular television show in Nigeria and Africa at large. This reality TV show began its operation in the year 2005 with significant sources of entertainment and a fundamental part of pop culture in Nigeria. This show has given birth to so many stars in the entertainment industry. Based on the watchword of the TV show, it was stated that Big Brother Naija is leveled with cultures and drama to promote the ethnic groups in the country.
This year's edition is tagged “Big Brother Titans” and will kick off on Sunday 15th, January 2023 with both the selected housemates from Nigeria and South Africa. Interestingly, both housemates will be staying in the same house, playing the same games under instructions in order to attain the price. The Chief Executive Officer, of MultiChoice Nigeria, John Ugbe, disclosed that the BBTitans edition will run for 72 days, and the winner will take home a cash prize of $100,000. The Big Brother Titans will be co-hosted by BBNaija host, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu and BBMzansi host, Lawrence Maleka. BBTitans is sponsored by Bamboo, Flutterwave, and Lotto Star and will be held in South Africa.
There are over 500 languages and ethnic groups in Nigeria with different cultures and beliefs while South Africa has 11 different distinctive languages with live cultures to behold. All these cultures and languages will be explored for learning and exposure around the globe during this year's edition. Hence, this will enable the world to recognize the common similarities, differences, and stereotypes between the groups.
In 2006 Katung Aduwak, a native of Zonkwa in Kaduna state was crowned the winner of the first edition of Big Brother Nigeria. This achievement was awarded to him by the massive votes he got from his fans. Kutung is said to be a senior creative director at Diacom International and an Executive Director at Chocolate City Music. In season two of Big Brother Naija in 2016, Efe Ejeba was crowned the winner. He is known for his slogan “Based on logistics”. Season three of Big Brother Naija came to an end on April 22, 2018, with Miracle Igbokwe being crowned the winner. He outsmarts Cee-C and Tobi to take home the grand prize. Miracle is 24-year-old and he hailed from Imo State, Nigeria.
Season four of Big Brother Naija was a dynamic one that ended on October 6th, 2019. Mercy Eke was the first female to be crowned winner of this TV reality show. Mercy was 26 years old at the time she was crowned the winner of the show. She is an entrepreneur, video vixen, and model from Imo State. On September 24th, 2020 Laycon was crowned the winner of Big Brother Naija season 5. During the Shine Ya Eye season 6 in 2021, Hazel Oyeze Onu, popularly known as White-Money was crowned the winner. He gained a significant evaluation in the house for his cooking skills and devotion to the kitchen. Phyna was reported to be the latest winner of Big Brother Naija season 7 which was held the last year 2022. She is the second female to be awarded winner of Big Brother Naija since 2006.
