A prominent socio-political group from Nigeria’s North-East region, Bring Back Our Goodluck, has issued a heartfelt public apology to former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, acknowledging that past allegations linking him to the sponsorship of terrorism were politically motivated and false.
Speaking at a press conference in Maiduguri, Dr. Grema Kyari, National Chairman of the group, admitted that he and many others were misled by a coordinated campaign involving foreign powers and desperate Nigerian politicians. The group now believes that Jonathan’s removal from office in 2015 was the result of a “regime change” orchestrated by the Obama-Biden administration in collaboration with local actors.
“I come before you not only as the National Chairman of Bring Back Our Goodluck but as a witness to history and as a Nigerian who, like millions of others, was once misled,” Kyari stated. “We now recognise that President Jonathan was a leader of integrity, compassion, and national vision.”
The group condemned the misinformation that once painted Jonathan as a sponsor of Boko Haram, calling it a “damaging narrative” that thrived in an environment of restricted access to truth. Kyari emphasized that Jonathan’s leadership was marked by humility, democratic values, and a commitment to national unity.
In a dramatic turn, the group is now calling on Jonathan to contest the 2027 presidential elections, asserting that Nigeria needs his leadership to navigate the current economic and security crises.
“On behalf of Bring Back Our Goodluck, I call on all well-meaning Nigerians to urge Dr. Goodluck Jonathan to once again answer the call of history,” Kyari declared.
