The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has successfully intercepted and seized over 10,000 cartons of counterfeit and substandard products in a sweeping enforcement operation conducted at a prominent market in Lagos.

The raid, which took place earlier this week, was part of NAFDAC’s intensified crackdown on the distribution of fake and potentially harmful goods across Nigeria. Acting on intelligence reports and surveillance, NAFDAC enforcement officers stormed the market and uncovered a vast cache of illicit products, including falsified pharmaceuticals, adulterated food items, and unauthorized cosmetics.

Speaking at a press briefing, NAFDAC Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, emphasized the agency’s unwavering commitment to protecting public health: “This seizure is a major victory in our fight against counterfeiters who endanger lives for profit. These fake goods pose serious health risks and undermine the integrity of our regulatory system.”

The confiscated items—estimated to be worth hundreds of millions of naira—were found hidden in multiple storage units and disguised among legitimate merchandise. Preliminary investigations suggest that the goods were intended for nationwide distribution.
