A prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has issued a strong piece of advice to Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang Yilwatda, urging him to steer clear of what he described as “mercantile politicians” as he steers the affairs of the state.
The APC leader, while addressing journalists in Asaba on Saturday, warned that aligning with self-serving political actors could derail the governor’s agenda and weaken public trust in his administration. According to him, “mercantile politicians” are those who place personal gain above the welfare of the people and are quick to abandon principles for profit.
“It is important that Governor Yilwatda surrounds himself with leaders who are driven by vision and public service, not those who see politics as a business venture,” he said.
The chieftain stressed that the credibility and future of democratic governance in Nigeria depends on the rejection of transactional politics, calling for a return to issue-based leadership driven by accountability, transparency, and genuine concern for the electorate.
He further encouraged the Plateau governor to work across party lines with credible leaders to build sustainable institutions and foster unity in a time marked by rising public expectations and economic challenges.
“Leadership is not about enriching a few; it’s about creating a legacy that benefits the many. The Plateau people deserve leadership that listens, acts with integrity, and resists the temptation of political profiteers,” the APC stalwart added.
