Former Senate President and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Bukola Saraki, has taken a swipe at recent defectors from the party, declaring that their exits are driven by personal frustrations and short-term grievances rather than sound political strategy.

Speaking at a PDP stakeholders meeting in Abuja on Tuesday, Saraki described the wave of defections as "impulsive reactions from individuals who are acting out of anger, not vision." He stressed that such departures, while unfortunate, are not unexpected in the lead-up to crucial electoral cycles.

"Those who are leaving the PDP today are not doing so because they have a better idea or superior alternative — they’re doing it because they didn’t get what they wanted when they wanted it," Saraki said. "Politics is not about tantrums; it’s about tenacity, foresight, and commitment to democratic ideals."

He emphasized that the PDP remains Nigeria’s most viable platform for genuine democratic engagement and national progress, urging party faithful to stay focused on unity, restructuring, and repositioning ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“True leadership is tested not in times of ease, but in moments of uncertainty,” he said. “We will not be distracted by political tourism or opportunism. The PDP will continue to grow stronger through discipline, dialogue, and democratic values.”
