The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has categorically dismissed rumours suggesting that former Governor and ex-Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, is planning to defect from the party.

In a statement issued on Saturday by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Hon. Segun Daramola, the APC described the reports as “baseless, malicious, and a calculated attempt to stir unnecessary tension and disunity within the progressive fold in Ekiti and beyond.”

Daramola emphasized that Dr. Fayemi remains a loyal and respected leader within the APC, both at the state and national level. He reaffirmed Fayemi's longstanding commitment to the ideals and vision of the party, which he has helped build and sustain over the years.

“There is no truth whatsoever to these claims. Dr. Fayemi is not contemplating leaving the APC. He has been a pillar of strength, not just in Ekiti politics, but also in the national development of our great party,” the statement read.

The party alleged that the rumour was the handiwork of political mischief-makers and opponents seeking to sow discord ahead of future elections. According to the APC, such attempts are not new and have repeatedly failed to dent the party’s internal unity and collective focus.

“We urge our members and the general public to disregard these unfounded insinuations. The former governor has continued to contribute meaningfully to policy dialogue, party strategy, and youth empowerment initiatives under the APC umbrella,” Daramola added.

The Ekiti APC also used the opportunity to express its continued confidence in the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Biodun Oyebanji, reaffirming its dedication to good governance, party discipline, and development-driven politics.

Dr. Fayemi, who governed Ekiti State between 2010–2014 and 2018–2022, has yet to comment directly on the rumours, but close associates have confirmed that he remains focused on strengthening democratic institutions and remains committed to the success of the APC at all levels.
