President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will receive Nigeria’s national women’s football team, the Super Falcons, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja this week in celebration of their historic victory at the 2025 West African Football Championship (WAFCON). The team’s resounding success has once again affirmed Nigeria’s dominance in women’s football on the continent.

The Falcons, who clinched their 10th WAFCON title after a hard-fought final against Senegal, are being honored for their extraordinary performance, sportsmanship, and unyielding determination throughout the tournament. Their win has ignited national pride and drawn widespread commendation across Africa.

According to a statement from the Presidency, President Tinubu is set to host the Super Falcons at Aso Rock to personally commend the players, coaching crew, and technical staff for bringing glory to the nation.

“The President is immensely proud of the Super Falcons. Their victory is not just a win for Nigerian football, but a testament to the resilience and excellence of our women in sports. They have made the country proud, and we will celebrate them as true champions,” said Chief Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity.

The reception is expected to include government dignitaries, officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), sports stakeholders, and youth leaders. It will feature a presentation of awards, presidential commendations, and a moment of national recognition for the team’s achievement.

The Super Falcons' victory at WAFCON 2025 not only cements their legacy in African football history but also qualifies them for upcoming global competitions. The team’s spirited display and unity throughout the tournament have become a symbol of hope and inspiration, particularly for young girls across the nation aspiring to break barriers through sports.

President Tinubu, an avid supporter of youth and sports development, is expected to reaffirm his administration’s commitment to supporting women’s football and improving investment in sports infrastructure and talent development nationwide.
