President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the recent tragedies that struck communities in Adamawa and Niger States, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to swift emergency response and long-term preventive measures.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President conveyed his heartfelt sympathies to families affected by the devastating flood in Yola, Adamawa State, and the fatal boat accident in Guni village, Niger State.

“I extend my heartfelt sympathies to the communities and families of victims affected by the flood disaster in Yola and the tragic boat accident in Niger State,” President Tinubu stated.

While acknowledging that flooding is a global phenomenon exacerbated by climate change, the President emphasized that local human activities often worsen its impact. He urged citizens to avoid behaviors that compound natural disasters and called for stricter adherence to safety protocols on Nigeria’s waterways.

President Tinubu commended the bravery of emergency responders, including local divers, volunteers, and community leaders, who have been instrumental in search and rescue efforts. He also praised the efforts of the Adamawa and Niger State Emergency Management Agencies for their rapid mobilization.

To address the immediate needs of affected communities, the President directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the National Emergency Response Centre to collaborate with state authorities on comprehensive rescue and relief operations.

Despite ongoing public awareness campaigns by the Federal Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, and the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), the President expressed concern over the recurrence of such tragedies. He called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community influencers to intensify grassroots advocacy on water safety and disaster preparedness.
