Ebonyi State Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has taken decisive disciplinary action by suspending 87 senior government officials for failing to attend a critical state function held earlier this week.
The suspension, which takes immediate effect, was announced in an official statement signed by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Monday Uzor. All affected officials are to proceed on a one-month working suspension without salary, and are barred from signing any official documents during the period.
Governor Nwifuru emphasized that the action was taken to reinforce discipline, accountability, and commitment to duty within the state’s public service. “Public office is a sacred trust. Absence from official engagements without valid reason undermines the integrity of governance and the expectations of the people,” the statement read.
Commissioners have been directed to hand over responsibilities to their respective Permanent Secretaries, while other suspended officials are expected to comply with the terms of the suspension.
This move underscores the Governor’s commitment to upholding the highest standards of conduct and dedication among public servants in Ebonyi State. It also serves as a stern warning that dereliction of duty will not be tolerated under the current administration.
