A prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Bamidele Akanbi, has hailed the emergence of Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda as the new National Chairman of the ruling party, describing it as a “timely and strategic move” that will strengthen the party’s internal structure and reposition it for future victories.
In a statement issued to journalists in Abuja on Friday, Chief Akanbi lauded the National Executive Council (NEC) of the APC for demonstrating “remarkable foresight” in electing a leader who combines youth, intellect, administrative acumen, and grassroots appeal.
“Dr. Yilwatda’s emergence could not have come at a better time,” the party stalwart said. “At this critical juncture in the life of our party and the nation, we need a chairman who can bridge generational divides, foster unity across regions, and drive a forward-thinking agenda for the APC. Yilwatda brings these qualities to the table.”
Yilwatda, a former governorship candidate of the APC in Plateau State and renowned technocrat, was unanimously elected as National Chairman at the just-concluded national convention of the party. His appointment comes amid growing calls within the party for reform, inclusivity, and stronger internal democracy.
Chief Akanbi emphasized that Yilwatda’s experience in public administration, his track record of youth engagement, and his commitment to transparency would help restore trust among party members and strengthen the APC’s grassroots support.
“He has always stood for innovation and inclusivity. I have no doubt he will bring the same energy and transparency into his new role. The APC is about to enter a new era under his leadership,” Akanbi said.
The APC chieftain also called on all party stakeholders—governors, legislators, local officials, and party members—to rally behind the new chairman and give him the full support required to drive meaningful reforms.
“This is not a time for division or backroom politicking. We must close ranks and move forward together. Dr. Yilwatda’s leadership provides us a fresh opportunity to unite, rebuild, and deliver on our promises to the Nigerian people,” he added.
Chief Akanbi concluded by expressing optimism that the new national leadership would reposition the APC as a more responsive, people-centered party capable of steering Nigeria toward greater development and stability.
