Discussions are currently in progress to bring an amicable resolution to the ongoing investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) into businesswoman Aisha Achimugu. This development follows a recent meeting between Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, where the matter was a key topic of discussion.
Aisha Achimugu, who has been under investigation for alleged money laundering and involvement in a high-profile investment scam, was declared wanted by the EFCC after failing to honor a summons in March 2025. The EFCC had issued an invitation for her to appear at its Port Harcourt office, which she did not attend. Subsequently, the Commission obtained an arrest warrant and declared her wanted.
In response to the allegations, Achimugu's associates have consistently denied any wrongdoing, describing the claims as baseless and politically motivated. They assert that she is currently abroad for legitimate business engagements and has not been arrested by the EFCC.
The ongoing negotiations aim to address the legal and reputational concerns surrounding the case. Both Governor Sanwo-Olu and President Tinubu have expressed a commitment to ensuring that the investigation is conducted fairly and transparently, without political interference.
