The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) have jointly filed a request in U.S. federal court seeking a 90-day extension to release documents related to investigations involving Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The request stems from an ongoing Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit filed by transparency advocate Aaron Greenspan, who is pursuing access to records that may contain information on President Tinubu’s alleged historical ties to financial or drug-related investigations in the United States.

In their legal filing, the FBI and DEA stated that the extension is necessary due to the large volume of documents involved and the need to conduct a detailed review to identify sensitive information, ensure compliance with federal privacy laws, and protect national security interests. The agencies emphasized their commitment to transparency while maintaining the integrity of the review process.

President Tinubu has previously filed motions to intervene in the case, asserting his right to privacy and opposing the release of the requested documents. The matter has drawn international attention, particularly in Nigeria, where questions regarding past legal entanglements have periodically resurfaced.
