Former Vice President and presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has reaffirmed his position as Nigeria’s leading opposition figure, declaring that he remains the “most formidable force against misgovernance” in the country. In a strongly worded statement, Atiku accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of plunging Nigeria into deeper socio-economic turmoil and described the party as a “decaying edifice beyond repair.”

Atiku’s remarks come amid growing public dissatisfaction with the APC government’s handling of the economy, insecurity, and democratic institutions. He cited the worsening living conditions, rising unemployment, and continued threats to the rule of law as evidence of the party’s failure in leadership.

"The APC has become a symbol of broken promises and shattered hopes,” Atiku said. “What we are witnessing today is not governance but a freefall into anarchy and misrule. I remain committed to leading the charge for a united, secure, and prosperous Nigeria.”

The former vice president also emphasized the need for a robust and principled opposition, warning against complacency within the ranks of opposition parties. “This is not the time for silence or half-measures. It is time for bold, courageous leadership that speaks truth to power,” he added.
