Prominent ex-militant leader and Niger Delta statesman, High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, has made a passionate appeal to Northern Nigerians to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in completing his constitutionally mandated eight-year tenure, just as former President Muhammadu Buhari was allowed to do.
In a statement issued through his media team, Tompolo emphasized the importance of political stability, national unity, and democratic consistency. He urged Northern stakeholders to respect the principle of power rotation and give the South the same support the North received during Buhari’s administration.
"We all stood behind Buhari for eight years in the spirit of national unity and mutual respect. Now that the South is leading, we must also allow President Tinubu to govern for eight years so the country can move forward in peace," Tompolo stated.
He noted that Nigeria’s democracy thrives when all regions respect the informal but powerful agreement of rotational leadership, which has helped preserve national cohesion since the return to democratic rule in 1999.
Tompolo also warned against political instability and divisive rhetoric that could inflame regional tensions, urging leaders from all parts of the country to prioritize the national interest above partisan politics.
