Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has formally responded to the recent defamation petition filed by Senate President Godswill Akpabio with the Inspector General of Police, describing the move as an attempt to intimidate and silence her. The Senator expressed grave concerns for her safety and called on relevant authorities to ensure her protection amidst what she termed “a targeted political witch-hunt.”
The defamation complaint, reportedly filed by Senator Akpabio, accuses Senator Natasha of making false and damaging allegations. In her official statement, however, Senator Natasha maintained that her comments were made in good faith and in the public interest, asserting her right to free speech and legislative oversight.
“This petition is not just about words—it’s about power, intimidation, and silencing dissent,” Senator Natasha said. “I will not be cowed into silence, especially when the truth and the welfare of Nigerians are at stake. I have nothing to hide, and I will continue to speak out against injustice, no matter whose toes are stepped on.”
Senator Natasha also raised alarm over recent threats and heightened surveillance, which she believes are connected to the ongoing dispute. She cited these developments as contributing to a “climate of fear” aimed at discouraging her political engagement.
“I fear for my personal safety and the safety of my family,” she added. “I call on the Inspector General of Police to ensure that this petition is not used as a tool for political persecution or unlawful harassment.”
