The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Council has strongly condemned the recent actions of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which declared Aisha Achimugu, a prominent ally of Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, wanted for alleged financial crimes.

In a statement issued by the Council's Secretary-General, Dr. Chuka Okeke, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Council expressed deep concern over what it described as an "unwarranted and politically motivated declaration." The Council expressed disbelief that such an action was taken against Ms. Achimugu without due process and adequate transparency.

“We believe this move is a dangerous precedent, one that threatens the sanctity of the legal system in our country,” said Dr. Okeke. “Aisha Achimugu is known for her unwavering commitment to public service, and this unfounded move against her cannot be viewed in isolation, particularly at a time when the nation is struggling with political and social tensions.”

The EFCC’s declaration has raised eyebrows among various political and social groups, with some alleging that it is part of an ongoing pattern of using the commission’s powers for politically motivated purposes. The Ohanaeze Council stands by its belief that the rule of law must be upheld, and all individuals must be given a fair opportunity to clear their names in the courts rather than through public declarations that risk damaging reputations.

The Council has called on the EFCC to reconsider its position and adhere strictly to due process, ensuring that every individual facing allegations is afforded a fair trial and due legal process.

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Council also urged the relevant authorities to investigate the motives behind this sudden move and address any potential misuse of power, ensuring that the integrity of the EFCC and other law enforcement agencies is not compromised.

“We stand firmly behind Aisha Achimugu and call for an immediate cessation of these actions. We also implore the EFCC to act in accordance with the law and allow justice to take its natural course," Dr. Okeke concluded.
